CHRONOLOGY OF CARITAS IN PAKISTAN
1965 Donation from Pope Paul IV to establish Caritas
Pakistan (December 8, 1965)
1966 Caritas Pakistan set up as a branch of Caritas
Internationalism
1968 Caritas Pakistan Agriculture Seminar, to facilitate
conducting a survey of Catholic villages and
colonies in Pakistan
1970 The Caritas Pakistan Constitution approved by the
Catholic Bishops' Conference in Pakistan
1971 Emergency relief to refugees from India-Pak war; East
Pakistan became Bangladesh
1973 Emergency relief to unprecedented gigantic monsoon flood
victims
1974 “Liberation
Through Development” seminar is held in
Multan for the purpose of establishing
Vision, Mission Goal
1979 The Constitution was approved and adopted by the general
body of Caritas Pakistan. The
main thrust was
towards awareness raising and community building.
Social
Awareness and Leadership Program (SALT) initiated
1980 Autonomy granted to the Diocese
1985 Bishop's Institute for Social Action (BISA) exposure
immersion program hosted in Bahawalpur in
preparation for BISA
II held in Bangkok
1986 Caritas Pakistan launched Animation and Development
Program in all the six diocese
1987 National Housing workshop organized
1991 Caritas and Development seminar focusing on deeper
aspects of development and outreach to
target communities
1994 Ten Steps of Animation were developed and adopted in
grassroots working areas
1996 National Strategic Planning workshop held to devise
preliminary 3-years plan to meet the
needs of the day
1998 Strategic Planning process was
initiated involving grass root people to meet the needs of 21st Century.
