INTEGRATED CROP MANAGEMENT /
INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT
BACKGROUND
Pakistan is an agriculture country and most of its
inhabitants are engaged with agriculture. Agriculture provides the basic
needs of life (food / cloth / shelter). It is also the backbone of our
economy. Population of Pakistan is increasing at the rate of 3.1 % per
annum but our agriculture production is 2.5 per annum there is big gap between
the population rate and the production rate. We can fill the mouth of the
increasing population by either increasing our area under agriculture or
increasing per acre yield. It is impossible to increase area under
agriculture; however, we can increase per acre yield.
For increasing the production, farmers use great number of
pesticides and chemical fertilizers, which leave their poison on the products.
When human beings consume these polluted products, their health in the form of
different diseases like cancer, cardiovascular, stomach diseases and tension.
These pesticides also affect environment and other living things. So there is a
need to implement such techniques, where the utilization of pesticides should be
decreased and crops are grown through natural methods.
