CBOs CAPACITY BUILDING TRAINING PROGRAM
BACKGROUND
Caritas Pakistan Lahore (CPL) started its animation program
in 1986 and with the passage of time this program transformed into Animation and
Development Program. After organizing the community, CPL felt that the
capacities of the community should be enhanced so that they were able to
organize their own program and activities. Therefore, in February 1977 Caritas
Pakistan Lahore started Community Based Organization (CBO) Training Program for
the executive bodies of local development committees (LDC) under which LDC
comprising of youth (male and female) men and women would be trained in three
phases at Caritas Pakistan Lahore's Training Center. 4 to 5 LDCs can participate
in training. Parish Development Committees (PDC) and Catechist Center
Development Committees (CCDC) are also trained under CBO training program.
GOAL
Capacity Building of Community Based Organization for Sustainable Development
OBJECTIVES
- To provide basic knowledge and skills in community organizing
- To create harmonious environment among the communities
- To promote local leadership
- To enhance the capacity of LDCs
- To promote self-confidence of the participants
- To explain the concept of integrated human development
- To make people self-reliant regarding their resource (material & human)
management
ROLE OF ANIMATOR
- To organize the community
- To prepare the community for the training
- To coordinate with CPL and community
- To keep on struggling for capacity building of the community
ROLE OF PROGRAM COORDINATOR
- To schedule the training according to the plans of animators
- To make logistic arrangements for the training
- To contact resource persons for the training
- To keep record and prepare report of training
- To hold meetings with training team
METHODOLOGY
After the completion of 3rd step of the community organization, LDC formed
which comprises the followings:
- Elders
- Women
- Youth (male & female)
- Elected Executive Body, which consists of:
- President
- Secretary
- Treasurer
- Minimum 30% representation interacted families in the LDC of the target
area.
- Animators will be responsible for sending participants for CMS training.
- Five executive members of each CBO can participate in each Phase of
Community Management Skill (CMS) Training.
- At least two of the participants can read and write.
- The participants stay for three days in Caritas Pakistan Lahore's Training
Center where boarding and lodging is provided to them.
- The parlance of the facilitators is according to the mental capabilities
of participants.
- * During the training audio video means are also utilized.
- * Follow up visits paid by Training Coordinator and animation coordinators

- > Through this training brotherhood, self-confidence and self-reliance are
promoted
- > Now people are friendly to each other and sit together to think over
their problems and for their solution.
- > Attitude of sharing their resources (time/talent/treasure) is promoted.

- > A positive and responsible attitude has been observed.
- > Dependency on outsiders as well as Caritas has been decreased
- > community becomes capable to run their program and activities
