AGRICULTURE PROGRAM

BACKGROUND

Pakistan is mainly an agriculture country and most of its inhabitants are engaged with agriculture.  Agriculture provides the basic needs of life (food / cloth / shelter).  It is also the backbone of our economy.  Population of Pakistan is increasing at the rate of 3.1 % per annum but our agriculture production is 2.5 per annum there is big gap between the population rate and the production rate.  We can fill the mouth of the increasing population by either increasing our area under agriculture or increasing per acre yield.  It is impossible to increase area under agriculture, however, we can increase per acre yield.  Before this program, it was impossible for the poor farming community to increase their yield because they were a prey in the vicious circle of the Feudal.  They give them inputs and devour their yield.  Due to this, the farming community was not able to eat their fill.  So to liberate the poor farming community from the claws of landlords and save them from starvation, agriculture program was started in Archdiocese of Lahore.

GOAL

To raise the living standard of the poor farmer community through appropriate and sustainable use of land and related resources.

OBJECTIVES

to impart technical / extension skills to CBOs in Archdiocese of Lahore

to promote Agri-credit facilities along the target CBOs
