APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM
BACKGROUND
Caritas Pakistan Lahore is working with the poorest of the
poor for their sustainable development. It is observed that in the Archdiocese
of Lahore majority of the people are uneducated and economically weak. When the
problems were analyzed, facts came out that the cause of their poverty was
unskillfulness, which resulted in unemployment. Therefore, Caritas Pakistan
Lahore started Apprenticeship Program to tackle the problem. Through this
program Caritas Pakistan Lahore make people skilled in different technical
fields. Thus they are enabled to earn their daily needs and gradually they might
be able to restore their dignity in the society.
GOAL
- Restoration of the dignity of the individuals and community
OBJECTIVES
- To arrange skill training for school drop outs and uneducated youth
- To improve socio-economic status of unskilled individuals through making
them skilled
- To promote resource sharing spirit among the apprentices
STRATEGY
- Formal meetings with apprentices
- Seminars are held with potential apprentices for their career guidance
- Contact with other NGOs, GOs and training institutions
- Recruitment and selection
- Contact with instructor and students
- Apprentices admissions in different training centers
- Follow up visits to the apprentices in the centers
- Follow up visit to the individuals after two months
- Animators visiting their respective areas apprentices every week
- Get together of students and families
METHODOLOGY
- Area animators provide the list of the deserving candidates to Diocesan
office
- A form is filled by the candidate which collects all the required
information
- Before the selection of the candidate aptitude test is held
- The training emerges through the animation process
IMPACTS
- Unskilled will be trained
- Unemployment will be decreased
- Socio-economic status will be boosted up
- Dignity of the poorest of the poor will be restored
